Easy walk from DMU. The plaza also has a Dahl's gas station, automated car wash, and convenience store. Dahl's Food Marts itself is big. My boyfriend insists that it's extremely pricy, but I didn't think it was Whole Foods pricy. Just your basic grocery store. I liked that there were several sample stations. Workers are friendly, but that isn't really a surprise. Seems like everyone is nicer in Iowa compared to California.

The store is good, with great selections. Nice flowers shop. the Meat dept. is a little pricey. Bakery and Deli are OK also has good selection. I'm not a fan of the Café. Do like the new Ways to Save Card for discount Gas prices.

We came to buy tickets for the Iowa State fair. I think they are one of the few chains that offer discounted tickets to the fair before the start of the fair. Service was fast.

Dahl's on Ingersoll (and other DSM neighborhoods) has been an institution for decades (obviously). Since they rebuilt the gigantic new store on the original site there has been a steady decline in the quality and an obvious spike in prices. They went way overboard on the overall scope of that project and the customers have been paying for it via the higher prices. It def didn't need to be that big. The old store with parking N and S of the building was perfect. Personally cannot wait for the new Fareway on Grand. *Did I mention how expensive it is? Just because we live in a nice neighborhood doesn't mean we should have to pay more. There are also people around here who don't make much money. And their money or food stamp credits don't go very far here. Because nobody's money goes far here. *Some key employees have left the store and the deli has suffered, especially. You don't put fried chicken in a plastic bag for customers. You might as well dip it in a bowl of water. Had negative deli experiences like 10/10 most recent visits. A very strange employee or two on the store's premises, as well. *There is a ton of space in that deli/ cafe that is greatly underutilized and a revamped version of their little Dahl's Diner (Circa the old store) would've been a great add. *I notice a lot of products are consistently pretty close to the expiration dates. *Very hard to get quality fruit here. Even if I think it looks good, usually ends up not being very good. I could surely find more to complain about. The location works for me. Their softdrink deals are decent. Hy Vee has those deals too...That's about it.

I feel bad for Dahl's. They've been around going on 85 years, and it's soon to be a thing of the past. The buildings will live on to what ever name American Wholesale Grocers names it. But of all the Dahl's locations in the Des Moines Metro, this one is by far the nicest. This is the Dahl's closest to my house, and they did an excellent job on capturing an urban feel to the landscaping of Ingersoll Avenue. Their previous building was an eyesore, but it is just a sign of the times. They spent about two years building the new store behind the old store, therefore making room for a fuel station and car wash, as well as a new location for MetaBank. The appearance of the exterior and interior will not disappoint. The aisles are wide and plentiful, the color scheme fits, and the store layout is very nice. Being a Des Moineser for two years (I've been coming here all my life), I have never gone to any Dahl's for a destination grocery shopping trip. It has always been the store where after shopping at Hy-Vee or Super Target, and we have forgotten something, so it was off to Dahl's we went! I really do sometimes take this store for granted, and I need to tell myself to use it more. The Fresh Market is soon to open in the next year just down the street. But The Fresh Market is a niche grocery store, like Whole Foods, and doesn't feature many mainstream groceries that are within the typical American food budget. I have never experienced a bad experience at Dahl's. Sometimes their prices aren't the greatest, but they aren't the worst I've come to experience in comparison to East/West Coast supermarkets. Included in this beautiful store are a pharmacy with Mercy Quick Clinic, Deli & Bakery, Cafe, and Ticketmaster Outlet. Though Hy-Vee and SuperTarget are awesome, we need to remember that Dahl's is here, too! I would shop Dahl's any day prior to Fareway (nothing bad to say about Fareway...I just like more variety, and shopping at a store that isn't retrofitted to look like what a grocery store would look like in the 1960's). Give them a shot...especially this location...you might like it!

If given the choice between Dahl's and Hyvee I would opt for Hyvee (especially their new location) but maybe that's a no-brainer statement for a local? Regardless, this Dahl's is conveniently located walking distance from my boyfriend's home. We tend to go there for spastic grocery purchases when I'm in town (for example, it's 6 p.m. and we have nothing to eat...Dahl's it is). They also have a gas station on-site. This is one of the larger groceries in close proximity to downtown. The cheese section could use a little love but you'll pretty much find what you're looking for when it comes to the deli, produce and bakery sections. When in Iowa...don't miss out on the local milk, eggnog and ice cream ;)

This Dahl's store has a decent selection of your typical grocery needs! What I look for is the above and beyond in a grocery store! What's the organic produce, and other healthy veggie type stuff.. I'm Vegan so this is important to me, this is not the best option for vegan packaged goods, but they do have a decent produce section. This Dahl's lacks that a little compared to other places in town.. But makes up for it with good Beer prices! Which is always nice! Also a great staff here, super nice, and they keep the store super clean and easy to navigate!

Wait! It's not the best but I do love this place. I give it three star rating, because I am rating it for what it is; a cafeteria with wifi. The food is a little better then what you would have had in grade school. I will say that the seating area is comfy and look up at the celling its fun. They have a sunday buffet which I enjoy, and they have made to order omelets. This is a great place to get breakfast after a night partying on Ingersoll. Also a good place to take the family after church. I would try the mac and cheese it's pretty good. I do not eat potato salad, but people in DeMo love the stuff. On any given day there is a lunch and dinner on the buffet line. Like friday night is taco bar night. Warning though go early because they shut down very early. In fact they should stay open until 7pm. They do not mind if you sit and soak up there free internet and drink bottomless coffee all day. There is also a long counter top with plug-ins conveniently placed in front of every seat. All and all a nice place with free wifi.

This is the grocery store I used to shop in aaaall the time because it was within walking distance to my house. Since the remodel, it has a much better, wider selection of products. I like that its much cleaner, and seems to have wider aisles than it used to also. Most of the staff have been here for ages- some very nice, but quirky, individuals. Dahls is not my top pick for grocery stores in the area, but the convenience of thier locations make it not too shabby when you're in a pinch and need to pick up the basics for that night's dinner.

Unbelievable selection and a very friendly staff; their prices are a little high though.

Great store with a wide selection. Their deli has the widest variety I have ever seen! I use Dahl's to send flowers and they have always been helpful.

This is exhibit A on Chicago needs to get a serious lesson in grocery stores. This place is entirely full service and super nice. Not to mention cheap!!

Please don't get me wrong, Dahls is Convenient cause its a few blocks from my home. But for everyday shopping, you need an armored car to accompany you there. Too EXPENSIVE. We just ate the chicken special, and the chicken was so tough it was inedible. I have heard that in the past the food was awesome. Too bad I wasn't around then. The potato salad at fareway is 1000 X's better. and i drive to fareway to shop.... and occasionally at hy-vee. Dahls is great for the last minute thing, I guess it is out of my budget.

I really want to love this store, because it is in my neighborhood and is relatively small local chain, not a cross-continental goliath. BUT - they did a gargantuan remodel which completely spoiled the original, slightly funky and friendly atmosphere and transmogrified it into a massive, soul-less behemoth that could be anywhere in the state or the country. They claim to have added 12,000 new items, but not one seems to be anything I want to buy. They should have taken a field trip to Whole Foods and figured out how to make an inviting place to shop.

The best grocery store in town! Not the biggest, nor the widest selection, but they have everything you need. If I go to Ingersoll Dahl's I never have to go anywhere else. It just rocks, you can get out of there fast, and the cashiers know what they are doing. They are currently expanding so it make the best even more awesome.
